A Passion for Discovery: Meet Sally Wine, Project Controls Consultant
Few people can say they help advance scientific discovery each day, but Sally Wine is a member of that lucky group. Sally first joined Mantra Ray Consulting as an intern in 2013 and has since built an impressive career that includes experience working with leaders in the energy and nuclear power industries, including the U.S. Department of Energy.
Currently, Sally is helping the teams working on The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) and the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) ensure that they complete their projects on time and within budget. Earlier this year, both projects underwent an Earned Value Management Systems surveillance review and garnered high marks. The ten panelists on the third-party review team noted the progress Sally and the team have been achieving.
At work and in her personal life as well, Sally is committed to continuous discovery and improvement. She recently obtained the internationally recognized Project Management Professional certification – a “daunting task,” Sally says, that required months of studying and preparation, including a four-day boot camp with The Project Management Academy in Seattle. The skills she learned will enable her to continue to help her clients better plan and control complex projects, creating order from chaos. It’s an achievement that solidifies Sally’s reputation and partnership with her clients.
Next up for Sally is a four-month sabbatical, which she’ll spend travelling through Europe with her husband, Kenny. The trip will cap off months of intense studying for Sally and mark the end of Kenny’s six-year enlistment in the Navy. The pair plans to visit Ireland, Scotland, England, Norway, France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Greece, and Sally says she is excited to take some time to relax, explore and re-focus.
“We both really love to travel, and we have been talking about all the places we want to see ever since we met,” Sally says. “Now we are just excited to have the opportunity to go and do it.”
